The latest round of opinion polls continue to place the ‘remain’ and ‘leave’ camps seemingly neck and neck ahead of the forthcoming referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU. Whilst the likely outcome of the referendum is unclear, what is clear is that the status quo is not on the table: both a vote to leave and – in light of the Prime Minister’s renegotiation package – a vote to remain in the EU will result in significant changes to the relationship between the UK and EU. Less clear is what the implications of those changes might be for the UK, for Scotland and for the EU itself.
In order to shed some light on these changing dynamics this event – the first such collaboration between Strathclyde Law School and the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law – will see two expert panels explore the implications of the referendum result, whatever that might be.
First, the Dean of Faculty, James Wolffe QC, will chair a panel consisting of Professor Jo Shaw, Alyn Smith MEP and Professor Drew Scott, that will explore the implications of a vote to remain in the EU. Following this, Sylvie Da Lomba (Lecturer in EU Law at Strathclyde Law School) will chair a panel consisting of Professor Michael Keating, Christine O’Neill (chairman at Brodies) and James Mure QC that will explore the implications of a vote to leave the EU.
